Pilar Angeloglou is a Spanish artist who has lived in Paris since 1970. After studying art history and archaeology at the École du Louvre and the Sorbonne in Paris, she ultimately turned to painting. Her early works already reveal her independent and determined character, as well as a strong taste for color.
In 1995, Pilar Angeloglou began experimenting with sculpture and quickly found her pictorial language. A true dialogue thus developed between her painting and her sculpture, resulting in a coherent and rich body of work—imaginative yet structured—where a sense of rhythm is essential.
Her architectures develop without a plan or preliminary drawing. The artist starts from an idea or an atmosphere, often drawn from her Andalusian memory, which she gradually seeks to capture. A rhythm—sometimes unconscious—gives rise to the form. Pilar Angeloglou reveals herself in the precision and rigor of these forms, in the tension established between the different parts. The edges take on more importance than the volumes they define; they form the framework of the space. The different planes create shadow and light. The Void bursts forth from the openings, animating the spirit, that of fullness.
